What does “drop” mean?Updated 10 hours ago

Drop refers to the difference in height between the heel and forefoot of a shoe. It affects how your foot sits in the shoe and can change the overall feel of the platform.

A traditional training or running shoe typically positions the heel slightly higher than the toes. A zero-drop shoe keeps the heel and forefoot at the same height, creating a flatter platform and keeping your foot closer to its natural position.

The Primitive 1 features zero drop, which is designed to provide a strong ground connection and allow the foot to work more naturally during training. It includes a 3.0 mm molded/removable footbed that provides light cushioning without compromising ground feel. The footbed is removable, allowing customers to use it or remove it based on their preference. The insoles are removable in all of our shoes, so customers can also remove the insole.

For comparison:

  • Primitive 1: Zero drop — creates a flat platform with minimal cushioning and a strong ground feel for natural movement during training. Includes a 3.0 mm molded/removable footbed that provides light cushioning without compromising ground feel.
  • Patriot 1: Zero drop — offers a natural foot position and ground feel for those who prefer a flatter platform.
  • Savage 1 Trainer: 4mm heel-to-toe drop — provides a stable, low-profile platform with more cushioning and structure, making it versatile for lifting and dynamic training.
  • Pursuit 1: 10mm heel-to-toe drop — provides a more traditional running-shoe feel with additional cushioning and support, making it a strong option for longer runs and higher-impact training.

If you're new to zero-drop footwear, keep in mind that the change in platform can feel noticeably different from traditional shoes. We recommend gradually incorporating zero-drop shoes into your training to give your feet and lower legs time to adapt
